Ester Bodnarova is a self-taught abstract artist based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Drawing on the duality of coming from an Eastern European background and growing up in a warm and saturated Australian landscape, Ester uses abstract expressionism as a way of synthesising the relationship between different aspects of self and experience. This is done through colour and texture to create harmonious pieces that are inspired by memories, emotions and impressions. Each artwork follows an intuitive process, a deliberate decision is made with each colour and mark, and the painting evolves through numerous layers until there is a felt sense of cohesion, beauty and completion.

Her practice is ever-changing and evolving, continuously informed by new experiences, ideas and emotions. Combining a deep interest and reverence for the human experience with the medium of painting, she is motivated by beauty and her art speaks to the beauty that can be made from the experience of being human.
